Elegy invited twelve Australian women artists to present jewellery and objects that facilitate mourning for a world in peril. The project, part of Melbourne Design Week 2020, asks us to recognise the profound mental and emotional impacts of climate change on individuals and society, and to acknowledge our collective grief by allowing it to be held, carried and used.
Looking to the elegy through its tradition as a poetic form that follows the recognised stages of loss - lament, praise and consolation - the artists have created works that reflect on the loss of ecology and biodiversity.
Artists include: Liv Boyle, Helen Britton, Maree Clarke, Michelle Stewart, Jess Dare, Maureen Faye-Chauhan, Kyoko Hashimoto, Marian Hosking, Cara Johnson, Inari Kiuru, Catherine Truman and Lisa Waup.
Softcover, 32 pages, full colour and black and white, 21 x 15cm. Published by Gallery Funaki, 2020.
