Gallery Funaki is pleased to welcome the joint winners of the emerging prize from the 2014 Mari Funaki Award for Contemporary Jewellery. Patrícia Correia Domingues and Sara Gackowska, both graduated in 2013, have each developed a highly refined, personal approach to their chosen mediums and are emerging strongly onto the international jewellery scene.
Portuguese artist Patrícia Correia Domingues studied at Massana School in Spain and completed her Masters at the Gemstone and Jewellery Design Department, University of Trier, Idar-Oberstein, Germany. Carving artificial stone, Patrícia examines the points of tension between forms, the lines that divide and unite. Her highly accomplished pieces have won the student prize New Traditional Jewellery in Netherlands, and last year, the Talente 2014 prize in Munich.
Sara Gackowska completed her Masters at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, Poland and has exhibited in group exhibitions in Europe, America, Canada and Asia. Sara’s bold, direct approach to materials such as stone and bio-resin reveals a striking maturity; her unconventional and surprising solutions have seen her work collected in the International Collection of Contemporary Jewellery Art, The Gallery of Art in Legnica, Poland and the Amber Museum in Gdańsk.
