Recent Works: Weathered and Worn

Marian Hosking, one of Australia's most respected metalsmiths, presents a new body of work that draws on recent travels; in particular, the experience of Victorian coastal environments. Hosking recently moved south with her husband Tyra Hutchens, to a house overlooking ti-tree scrubland near Rye. This new location, with its varied bird life, salt tolerant plants and sandy vistas, is beginning to find its way into Marian's famously site specific jewellery works, alongside more familiar sites such as the central tablelands of NSW. With a naturalists eye for detail, Marian finds the intricate patterns, grains and structures within flora of these regions and brings them to the body with a jeweller's skill and sensitivity.
